Hi, I'm Andrew.
I'm a fractional technical consultant, which is a fancy way of saying I help small businesses and founders fix the parts of their operation that have quietly turned into a mess. Usually that's a process held together by spreadsheets, copy-paste, and good intentions. My job is to turn it into something that runs on its own - through some mix of automation, AI, and actual software.
This newsletter is where I think out loud about that work.
I didn't start out in tech. I spent years as an educator before making the jump, and that background still shapes how I do this - I care as much about explaining a system as building one. So that's what you'll get here. Some issues are hands-on and practical: here's a workflow I built, here's how it works, here's the part that'll bite you if you're not careful. Others zoom out: what's actually worth automating and what isn't, where AI genuinely helps versus where it's just noise, and how to think clearly about a build before you start building.
I write for a mix of people. Some readers run businesses and want to understand what's possible without getting buried in jargon. Others build things for a living and want the real, in-the-weeds details. I figure the overlap is bigger than it looks - everyone benefits from clear thinking and fewer headaches - so I write for both, and I try not to talk down to either.
What you won't find here is hype, buzzword soup, or breathless takes on whatever's trending this week. Just honest notes from someone doing this work every week, sharing what's working, what isn't, and what I'm still figuring out.
If that sounds like your kind of thing, subscribe and come build with me.
